Signs You May Need a Rewire

Wiring Over 25–30 Years Old
Older wiring — particularly rubber-insulated or aluminium wiring — degrades over time and may no longer be safe or compliant. If your property hasn't been rewired in the last 25–30 years, an inspection is strongly recommended.
Persistent Tripping or Blown Fuses
If your circuit breakers trip regularly or you're frequently replacing fuses, it's a sign your wiring can't handle the demands of modern electrical use — or that there's an underlying fault in the installation.
Scorch Marks or Burning Smell
Discolouration around sockets, switches, or the consumer unit, or a persistent burning smell, are serious warning signs of overheating wiring. These require immediate professional attention.
Unsatisfactory EICR Result
If your Electrical Installation Condition Report has returned an Unsatisfactory result with multiple C1 or C2 observations, a full or partial rewire may be more cost-effective than carrying out individual repairs.
Buying an Older Property
If you're purchasing a property built before the 1990s with no record of a rewire, it's worth having the installation inspected before you complete — and budgeting for a rewire if needed.

Full House Rewire
Complete replacement of all fixed wiring throughout the property — consumer unit, circuits, cables, back boxes, and terminations. We carry out the work in two stages (first fix and second fix) to fit around your decorating schedule, and issue a full Electrical Installation Certificate on completion.
Partial Rewire
Where only part of the installation needs replacing — a specific floor, a single circuit, or an area affected by damp or damage — we carry out a targeted partial rewire, integrating the new wiring with the existing installation safely and to current regulations.
Rewire with Consumer Unit Upgrade
Most rewires include a new consumer unit as standard. We supply and install a modern unit with full RCD and RCBO protection, correctly sized for the new installation and compliant with BS 7671 18th Edition.
Extension & Conversion Rewire
New wiring for extensions, loft conversions, garage conversions, and outbuildings — integrated with the existing installation and designed to meet the demands of the new space. We work alongside your builder to complete the electrical installation on programme.
How a Rewire Works
A rewire is a two-stage process designed to fit around your decorating schedule. Here's what to expect from start to finish.
Free Survey & Fixed Quote
We visit your property, assess the existing installation, and provide a fully itemised fixed-price quote. We'll discuss the scope of work, the programme, and what disruption to expect — so there are no surprises.
First Fix
We run all new cables through the property, chasing into walls where required. At this stage the property will be in a 'rough' state — this is normal. We protect floors and furniture throughout.
Decoration Phase
OPTIONAL - Once first fix is complete, you carry out any plastering, painting, or decorating. We coordinate with you on timing so second fix happens at the right point in your schedule.
Second Fix & Certification
If required, we return to fit all accessories (sockets, switches, light fittings), connect the new consumer unit, and carry out full testing. You receive your Electrical Installation Certificate on the day.

All our rewire engineers are registered with SELECT and NAPIT. We self-certify our work under Part P of the Building Regulations — you don't need to apply for building regulations approval separately.
Experienced Rewire Specialists

Consumer Unit Upgrade Only
Replaces the fuse box. The existing wiring throughout the property stays in place. Appropriate when the wiring is in good condition and the consumer unit is the only non-compliant element.
